An incredible breakfast, basically a vegan McDonalds. Must visit if you are in the area
Great food, couldnt belive it was vegan! Lovely staff, a large selection of meals, highly recommend!
I love love love this place I came here a few times (Union Street location) had their avocado Mash sandwich and there Deli sandwich and there burgers so beyond delicious and you wouldn't even think is vegan . they also have desserts salads and drinks
I ordered chicken and waffles (100%vegan) and it was Very tasty! Don't be fooled by the size of the sandwich on my picture. It'll fill you up
The ultimate in vegan comfort food in the Bay area. Everything was delicious and the staff were so friendly. We went for breakfast, but ended up buying lunch too and actually having a vegan picnic in the park later in the day!
A great walk up vegan bar with some limited seating if you want to dine in. They have a great rotating menu of vegan options ranging from breakfast to lunch and entrees. Everything is 100% vegan and they offer some prepackaged vegan snacks as well. Pricing is fair and a little more expensive in some instances but that is to be expected for the quality of food you are getting here.
I ordered the breakfast burrito and was blown away by how flavor packed it was. I asked the gentleman across from me how he was enjoying his chicken and waffles and he had only good things to say as well. The ambience is small but chic and service was prompt. This would definitely be a spot I'd visit again!
I like two things about this place: it's vegan and the bread is good. But the sandwiches are messy, and only have a slimy slice of tomato and shredded lettuce as veggies. I didn't care for the fake meat stuff either, which is the main focus here I guess.. The sauce in the waffle sandwich is described as maple but tasted like cheese to me. I was put off and they let me have something else for free, earning their third star.
Let’s just get to the point! Their food is really, really good! I had the breakfast sandwich and the giant donut and they were both masterpieces. First off, google maps stated they opened at 9AM so when we arrived outside around 855AM we read that they didn’t actually open until 930AM. Kind of bummed out since we were very hungry. However, the employee inside insisted we come in and he was more than happy to serve us. Jax was very outgoing, friendly, and you could tell he really cared about his customers. Okay, now time to talk about the restaurant- very clean and they played good music. One down side, seating is very limited. But, given how they served the breakfast sandwich, this place is more like a to-go restaurant. Parking: on-street parking, nothing new to the SF area. Overall: if you’re in the SF area then you need to come here, it won’t disappoint! Fantastic job, Vegan Picnic!!
Delicious burgers. One of the employee gave me a really bad vibe for no reason which I did not appreciate.
I really liked the waffles and the brownies! The servers were friendly and helpful. Hopefully, they'll get outdoor seating soon. We were disappointed that the seating was very limited and not very comfy. But since there was no competition for seating when we were there, we were satisfied.
Fried chicken patty was tasteless and not homemade. Would not get anything with this patty again but will try something else next time. FYI, Saturday 3pm: all baked goods were sold out and the refrigerator case was nearly empty too.
Staff here are fantastic and gave us loads of samples on New year's Day! We had breakfast burritos, everything is plant based and it was very good. Thank you, lovely ladies!
It took me forever to decide what to get because their entire menu sounded so good. Food was so amazing and the people working there are the best. New favorite restaurant ♡
The breakfast burrito was great! JUST vegan eggs made it even better.
Everything is vegan! Excellent grab and go foods, including donuts and breakfast burritos. There are a couple of small tables and a window bar but it's a small space so not much seating. Fast, friendly service. We went just as they opened on a Sunday and they didn't seem terribly busy at that moment. Everything tasted great. Fairly expensive but great quality for convenience food.
Great place and good meals. Absolutely nice for all vegetarians. Try the burgers - I’m still thinking there was a meat inside 🤔
The Crispy Chicken knocked it out of the park. The Challah used for the sandwich is reason enough to go back, not to mention the expertly-baked patty. Hard to believe that their meats (especially the chicken and meatballs) are vegan.
I really wanted to like this place and it's good to see a fully vegan cafe but I don't think they've got it quite right. The bread for the PB&J sandwich tasted stale. The hot "chicken" sandwich tasted microwaved. I've also tried the breakfast burrito which I think lacked flavor and, if nothing else, was under-seasoned. The only dish I would try again is the avocado toast. They could also do with more seating inside to give it more of a sit-down cafe feel.
I love Vegan Picnic! Friendly service and super amazing comfort sandwich food. They are now serving breakfast all day! I had the breakfast sandwich and it was delicious. Ready to try to ham and cheese croissant next!!
Super tasty food. Helpful team. If I am ever in SF again Ill be sure to visit! (In case you didn't guess by the name, completely vegan too)
Delicious food! Crispy chicken sandwich is amazing, non-vegans enjoy it as well! Definitely will frequently visit to try the rest of the menu!I must respond to those with any negative experience of Vegan Picnic. The food is served VERY fast, yet this is not a fast food chain and to add to that there is just ONE person working the kitchen area typically. The food is SO refreshing because it's NOT typical veggie sandwiches and uncreative salads. If you want those things, 99% of non-vegan restaurants serve exactly that. What I find so refreshing about Vegan Picnic is that not only do they attempt to recreate non-vegan cuisine dishes but also totally NAIL them with delicious creations! It's a treat for those transitioning to vegan lifestyle, those who miss certain types of food, and those who have a significant other who has a meat based diet. Keep it up Vegan Picnic! Would love to see you guys try making a vegan tuna melt! :)
Delicious! Only complaint is I wish they had more seating. Definitely a to go place. The “hand and cheese†croissant was yummy! The chicken sandwich too!
Very tasty but as a hard core vegan, this is only a expensive snack, I got the chicken sandwich super yummy. Glad to have v fan options. The place is to small, they don’t have plates. I will back.
Food tasted like the original ingredients and delicious . Dear front desk guy, stop playing loud music on your phone in the middle of the shift , is disrespectful. I’ll invite you to try out Headphones! That way you aren’t annoying people around you :) . Love, honest Feedback.
It was my first time eating here and I had the Crispy Chicken - it was really good! I will definitely come back to this place.
Cute little vegan spot with a small (but insanely impressive) menu. We had the grilled cheese, breakfast burrito, crispy chicken sandwich, and (of course) vegan doughnuts. Can't wait to return to SF for more goodies!
Outstanding scene for tasty American food. There was fast, efficient, and courteous service. It has a good atmosphere.
Hands down the best vegan ham and cheese croissant I’ve ever had. The restaurant is nestled into a quant little neighborhood in SF. Their all vegan menu is great for a quick bite for breakfast or something a little more substantial for lunch. The staff is super friendly and great at answering your questions. If you’re in the area, I highly recommend it. Especially if you haven’t had a croissant in a while, I had it twice in two days!
We hiked a really long way to specifically go to this spot based off internet reviews. We loved the food and ambiance of this cafe. We only had breakfast foods but they were amazing. Highly recommended!
Came all the way from Cleveland Ohio to try these sandwiches. Out of this world and the best donut I have ever had.
Cute little shop with delicious vegan food and some small grocery items. We had the chicken and waffles sandwich which was covered in some magical creamy maple sauce. Excited to try other things on the menu (including some enticing breakfast things) next time! There are only a few seats inside, but it wasn’t very busy on a Sunday in the early afternoon. There were also some yummy looks desserts.
Had my first experience there recently and, while the place is a little tight, the food is really nice. As a vegan, fimding decent quick grub that is also respectful of animals and the Earth is lovely. I had "chicken" and waffles and it was delicious. The waffle was soft and crispy and the "chicken" was delicious, flavorful, and you even got the hint of maple syrup as well. I will certainly be back and would recommend this spot to anyone who would ask - vegan or not!
Vegan picnic is a delightful little plant based restaurant that seems to exist purely for the purpose of spreading the vegan lifestyle. They have a really good selection of hot and cold sandwiches and some truly excellent breakfast items. Besides that, they always have delicious doughnuts on display at the counter and vegan food ranging from cheese puffs to hand crafted nut cheeses from other producers. Food is absolutely worth the money and the staff is very friendly. The fellow who helped us out offered us advice on what to try, gave us a meatball with homemade tomato sauce to sample and a side each of macaroni salad and coleslaw. I couldn't recommend this small cafe any higher and I can't wait to go back
I wanted to like this but the marketing set up expectations that the food was totally different from. Crispy chicken waffles were mediocre.. chicken fo-patty tasted fine but wasn’t crispy, more like breaded soft chicken. That was a bummer because the crispy part was the main draw. Maple sauce was basically sweet mayonnaise 😖. Appreciated the generous free meatball sample. If I were to come back I would be up for trying that.
I wish I could rate the staff and food separately. The staff were friendly and great. The food was so so. The crispy chicken waffle sandwich my wife ordered was far from crispy, but still decent, as was my croissant sandwich. We were still hungry and decided to try something else. The sandwich my wife got was rather mediocre, and as much as we didn't want to, we had to get a refund on my cheesy breakfast burrito, as the chorizo smelled like nail polish remover. It actually had my eyes beginning to water, it was so strong. So, the staff get 5 stars for being so friendly and giving us no trouble on the refund. The food gets 3 stars, as the first two meals at least tasted good despite seeming as though it was all microwaved.
Probably my top 3 favorite restaurant in San Francisco. Have been to both the Polk Street and union Street places and both are perfect!!
LOVE LOVE LOVE!I can’t even begin to describe how amazing this place is. Starting with the two kind women behind the counter, who not only knew what to recommend to us... they were happy to do so! We loved our food, our experience.. and cannot wait to be back! PS try the breakfast burrito.
Friendly staff, mediocre food. I was recommended to get the crispy chicken and wha i got was a soft chicken patty sandwich. They bake it which is healthier, the just need to change the name to baked patties. Also no restrooms
Good meatball sandwich, be prepared to either sit at a barstool or small outdoor chair. The sides were small as well, but I guess the whole place is.
A+ vegan spot in a lively neighborhood. We ordered the Ham & cheese croissant, chik n’ waffles and chicken sandwich. They were all really good! Also to die for are the sides: Cole slaw and macaroni salad. Prices were great. Definitely will be coming back here again.
Effing heavenly. I got the slawpy crab, which is a crab cake sandwich, and my friend got the classic fish sandwich. He got a side of coleslaw, I got the Mac salad. We both highly enjoyed our sandwiches and especially the delicious bun they came on. My slawpy crab was sloppy but so dang good. I tried my friend's fish sandwich and I almost wanted to trade because it was also heavenly!! Both sandwiches went perfectly with their sides and the sodas they offered there were also great accompaniments. I got the root beer they offer which isn't very sweet, refreshing when paired with the slawpy crab. When done, we bought some more Mac salad to go and a piece of baklava. The baklava tasted strongly of rosewater so skip if you're not a fan. I loved it. Oh, to top it off, the person working the counter was very friendly and handled the rushes of people very well!
One of my favorite vegan spots. I like the crispy chicken, breakfast burrito, and the cheesecake.
Staff was beyond nice but really cant justify the prices for the meatball sandwich. The sandwich was messy, cheese was super hot but the meatballs were on point but maybe as an open plate not a sandwich.
Second time coming here today. First time we came about six months ago (we live well out of town) and had the breakfast burritos and loved them. Maybe because our first visit was in the morning and the food was fresher? But today wow huge disappointment, the burritos were dripping with grease and inedible for about 20 min because they were so hot. Now I really feel like I want to throw up. I definitely won’t be going back.
A tad too expensive but delicious 100%. Also wish the breakfast burritos weren't premade. I wanted to try the sriracha crema with my burrito but apparently couldnt. Love the donuts they get from Black Spring Coffee Co
I would say it is the best place to eat vegan food. Loved it. The servers were very kind.
Good food. Conveniently packaged food to go available as well. Pricey. Smaller portioned. Not many seats available. Staff seems chill.
Vegan spot on Union in Cow's Hollow. Counter service, laid back vibe, good music. I enjoyed the food but I wish they had vegetables. It's all vegan recreations of things like crispy chicken, fish filet, steak, grilled cheese, egg salad, etc.
Very nice vegan cafe. Highly recommend the breakfast burrito! Delicious! Strooong coffee. Very friendly service.
